James Dondero, Enriching People’s Lives One Day at a Time

James Dondero is a professional investment advisor with experience of over 30years in the credit and equity markets. Together with his business partner Mark Okada, they founded Highlands Capital Management, an investment advisor company registered by SEC.

He currently serves as the principal of the firm which has around $16billion under its management. Highlands is internationally renowned as one of the largest and most trusted firms in offering alternative investments solutions. Although Highlands is based in Dallas, it has offices in other places like Sao Paolo, Singapore, New York, and Seoul. In its headquarters in Dallas, Highlands has been named among the best companies to work.

James Dondero is an alumnus of the University of Virginia where he graduated with dual majors in Accounting and Finance from McIntire School of Commerce. He has also received certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

According to The Dallas Journal, before founding Highlands, James Dondero worked in other companies where he got a chance to gain experience. After getting an opportunity to work with the Morgan Guaranty training program, he went on to work with American Express as at a Portfolio Manager. While working for GIC, he helped grow the firm from scratch to over $2billion in just 3years. Currently, he chairs in the boards of Cornerstone Healthcare, CCS Medical, and NexBank.

Apart from managing Highlands Mr. Dondero contributes to some charity courses. He is philanthropic and helps influence the community positively by supporting projects that help the masses like education and children’s welfare. To be able to enter partnerships and donations efficiently a branch of Highlands was formed called Highlands Dallas Foundation, Inc.

Last year when Family Place was conducting their Legacy Campaign fundraiser, Highlands Dallas Foundation donated $1million to help them finish their campaign strong. Family Place is Dallas’ leading organization that supports victims of domestic violence by providing shelter for victims and offering to counsel to the family violence victims. Mr. Dondero was touched by their conviction to help and thus decided support them.
